Cantors:

The vast history of this ministry reveals the close relationship between the proclamation of the Word and singing. We are encouraged by St Paul to sing “hymns psalms and spiritual songs.” The reforms of the Second Vatican Council revived this ministry. The ministry is envisioned to assist the assembly in singing the mass, especially the Ordinary of the Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Holy Holy, Lamb of God, etc.). The cantor is not a performer, but a subtle assistant to the musical participation of the assembly, whether actual or through active listening.

Cantors in St Mary’s provide music for various masses and liturgies.

Audition required.

Other Instrumentalists:

“Other instruments also may be admitted for use in divine worship… This may be done, however, only on condition that the instruments are suitable, or can be made suitable, for sacred use, accord with the dignity of the temple, and truly contribute to the edification of the faithful.” (SC 120) Please contact the Director of Music. seant@stmaryofsorrows.org
