Do you have 1 hour a month to help support our local community in need of extra food?

Immediate Need of Volunteers: We have an immediate need for the 5th Thurs team (May 30, Aug 29, and Oct 31) for packing and deliver to Burke 5:30 PM.  We also need afternoon 3:30 to 5:00 pickup drivers for the 5thThurs Driver to go to the FFO Warehouse off Prosperity Ave.  We are always in need of on-call staff to supplement all the teams and drivers. Family members and children are welcome to help.  You can try it out and shadow a pickup driver or a Thursday evening distribution team.

Organization: SMoS volunteers are divided up into 5 teams supporting each Thursday of the month. Each team is also supported by a pickup driver that goes to the Food for Others Prosperity Avenue Warehouse in the afternoon and delivers the food to Farrell Hall. The team assigned for the week packs twenty plus bags for about 20 people who have designated pick-up times on Thursdays. The bags are also supplemented with items from the SMoS Food Pantry. Food is distributed to two sites in the Burke Centre Section 8 housing areas near by the Burke Kohl’s Department Store between 6pm to 7:30pm.

Logistics: Drivers and distributors have access to the SMoS Food Ministries new minivan, which can be reserved online, after you are approved by the diocese.  We can use the minivan for warehouse pick up and the Burke Centre site distribution as long as it is Food Ministries related events. The Food for Others warehouse address is 2938 Prosperity Ave, Fairfax, VA 2203.
