Upcoming News and Announcements -8/8/25

Meetings for International Night will be on Thursday, August 14th at 7:00pm in Farrell Hall. 
 
The Parish wide “Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary” begins on August 13th in preparation for our feast day in September. Books will be available in the narthex starting next weekend. 
 
Friday, August 15th is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times are Vigil on Thursday at 4:00pm, with the Holy Day Masses at 5:30am, 6:30am, 9:15am, 12:00pm, and 7:00pm in the main church.
 
Faith Formation Registration is now open for new families! Register online. Class selection & Payment is through Parish Giving.    Rel Ed Registration Link
 
There will be a Fall Grief Support Group starting in September. For more information, email Kathy Maurer at Kathryn.maurer@compassus.com.
 
 
SAVE THE DATE: The following events are coming up. Please make note on your calendar and watch for further information in our bulletin, on our website or in future Flocknotes!!
 
Scheduled Monthly Events:
 
  • All-day and all-night Adoration is available every First Friday with Saturday devotions on the First Saturdays of the month. 
  • Young Adults gather for coffee and breakfast the first Sunday of the month after the 9:30am Mass every month. 
  • Family Adoration is normally offered every third Saturday of the month starting at 10:00am in the new churchFamily Adoration will not be available until September.
  • Diaper, Wipes and Formula will be collected during the weekend of the fourth Sunday of the month and donations can be left in the foyer of the Parish Center. 
  • The second collection on the third Sunday of the month is for debt reduction
  • Food Pantry donation bags are usually given out the first weekend of the month with the collection through the second Sunday at 1:00pm. 
  • Martha’s Table4th Sunday Sandwich Collection will be on the fourth Sunday, only from 1-3 PM.Drop off at the back of Farrell Hall (Door 4). Full details attinyurl.com/MTSandwiches
  • Registration for Homeschool Group Fall Classes is now open!  Please email us for more details on the classes we are offering. stmaryofsorrowshsg@gmail.com.
 
 
Upcoming Events:
  • OCIA Meet and Greet will be held on August 28th in St. Joseph’s Hall at 7:00pm for anyone interested in learning more about becoming Catholic. For more information, contact Deacon Dave at deacondave@stmaryofsorrows.org.
  • Annual Parish Family Picnic Please plan to support and attend the parish family picnic on Labor Day (1 September 2025) on the grounds of the church and the Parish Center. All the fun activities, games, events, and shopping opportunities we all enjoyed last year will repeat again this year.  Putting on a picnic of this magnitude will involve a lot of volunteers.  
  • Young Adult Retreat will be offered on Saturday, August 23rd from 9am to 4pm at the Parish Center. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
  • On Sunday, August 24thPrayer Shawls will be distributed after 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30am Masses in front of the church for those in need of healing.
  • See the attached announcement for the upcoming retreat for women on September 27, 2025 in St. Joseph’s Hall from 9:15am through 4:15pm. 
  • “The Greatest Love Story,” Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Farrell Hall: Calling all men for faith formation, food, and fellowship! Join us for “The Greatest Love Story” on Tuesday, September 16, 7:00 p.m. in Farrell Hall. The program will include a viewing of Father Mike Schmitz’s speech during the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress titled “The Greatest Love Story” followed by breakout discussion groups.   (Hosted by Knights of Columbus Council 8600)

Moving Foward

Calling all Woodworking, Sewing, Crafting, Painting friends, young and young at heart: We are very thankful for the donations we have already received from the parish and are well on our way to creating a very unique learning environment for CGS. We need YOU to help bring beauty to this sacred space for our children to experience our faith in a very hands-on way. Our parish has so many wonderful talents and we ask for you to share those and your time with us to create the Atrium materials. There are many options to consider.
