Join Fr. Cummings for Family Adoration this Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00am in the church. All are welcome.
 
The second collection this weekend is for Debt Reduction. Next weekend the second collection will benefit the Church in Latin America. 
 
The Parish Center offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
 
Bingo will be played on January 17th in Farrell Hall starting at 6:30pm. Chili, hot dogs and baked goods are served starting at 6:00pm. Bakers are welcome.
 
If you have experienced the loss of a family member or friend and are feeling isolated, you don’t have to suffer alone. We are starting a Grief Support Group in February at St. Mary of Sorrows. To find out more about it, please see the bulletin and contact Kathy Maurer at kathry.maurer@compassus.com.
 
St. Mary’s Preschool has been experiencing some phone interruptions. We apologize if you were not able to get through or left a message and haven’t received a response. SAVE THE DATE: The following events are coming up. Please make note on your calendar and watch for further information in our bulletin, on our website or in future Flocknotes!!
 
Scheduled Monthly Events:
  • All-day Adoration is in the Parish Center Chapel from 7:00am until 7:00pm and on First Friday, all-night Adoration from 7:00pm is available in the church every First Friday with Saturday devotions on the First Saturdays of the month. 
  • Young Adults gather for coffee and breakfast the first Sunday of the month after the 9:30am Mass every month
  • Luminaries of Holy Mary will meet on the first Monday of the month in the Conference Room from 5:00pm to 6:30pm to discuss Fatima and pray the Rosary. Luminaries are not meeting in February.
  • Patricians meet monthly on the first Monday of the month at 7:00pm in Farrell Hall to discuss Catholic topics
  • Family Adoration is normally offered every third Saturday of the month starting at 10:00am in the new church. Family Adoration is this Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00am. People of all ages are welcome.
  • Spaghetti Dinner and Pancake Breakfast are usually the second weekend of the month. Have a great dinner after the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday. Pancake Breakfast is served after the 7:30am and 9:30am Masses. Come to a Valentine’s Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, February 7th in Farrell Hall hosted by the Knights of Columbus. The Knights will be offering a Pancake Breakfast on February 8th after the 7:30am and 9:30am Masses.
  • Diapers, Wipes and Formula will be collected during the weekend of the fourth Sunday of the month and donations can be left in the foyer of the Parish Center.
  • The second collection on the third Sunday of the month is for debt reduction. The Debt Reduction Collection will be this weekend.
  • Food Pantry donation bags are usually given out the first weekend of the month with the collection through the second Sunday at 1:00pm. 
  • Martha’s Table 4th Sunday Sandwich Collection will be on the fourth Sunday, only from 1-3 PM.Drop off at the back of Farrell Hall (Door 4). Full details at  tinyurl.com/MTSandwiches
 
Upcoming Events:
 
Movie Night resumes this month on Jan 24, at 6:00 in the Parish Center.  Season 5, Episode 4 will be shown following a delicious chili meal.  Discussion will follow about the disciples struggles to grasp His suffering, Judas’ misplaced zeal, Mary Magdalens’s bold faith, and the tension between spiritual and earthly kingdoms.
 
The Knight’s are sponsoring a Chili Cook Off on Tuesday, February 3rd in Farrell Hall. More information to follow.
 
St. Mary’s Women’s Group is inviting parishioners to a Mardi Gras Family Fun Dinner/Dancing on Sunday, February 15th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in Farrell Hall. Adults are $15, Children from 11-17 are $5 and Children under 10 eat free.
 
The Knights of Columbus are inviting all men to a Trivia Night on February 17th at 7:00pm in Farrell Hall. 
 
“Triumph of the Heart, The Passion of St. Maximillian Kolbe”, is a deeply moving movie about the darker realities of brutality and evil will be shown on Saturday, March 7th at 7:00pm in St. Joseph’s Hall. This movie is only for mature audiences.
 
SMOS is joining Holy Spirit Parish for the VA March for Life on April 22, 2025. To RSVP, please email jonathanr@stmaryofsorrows.org.

Moving Foward

St. Mary of Sorrows Preschool registration is open now for the upcoming school year. Our Preschool accepts children 2 ½ year olds to 5-year-olds. We are a preschool that teaches Catholic values, positive self-image and works closely with families. Our Catholic preschool program includes Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in our Atrium.
