Samaritan Fund Report How does the Samaritan Fund work? Financial assistance is provided to people throughout Fairfax County, and occasionally in other areas of Northern Virginia. In most cases, the request comes from a social worker who is putting together a package of financial assistance for a client, and St. Mary’s contribution is $100 or less. Between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008, the Samaritan Fund was distributed as follows:
Rent, Mortgages, Security Deposits $32,192 Utilities 11,810 Medical/Dental 2,750 Transportation (includes car repairs) 2,256 Other Emergency Assistance and Support 4,114
Total
$52,922 Money for assistance is donated by parishioners in the Samaritan Fund box and baskets in the foyer and at the donut table. We have also been blessed by very generous donations by a parish family over several years, and by contributions made in memory of someone who died from another parish family. Thank you!
