Donations of Used Clothing, Furniture, etc.

 

St. Mary's does not have storage and distribution for used items except when there is a special collection (e.g., during the fall clothing drive, Mothers’ Group Kids’ Stuff Sale, and the White Elephant Sale).

Note: If you call one of the following numbers, please say that you  were given the number by St. Mary’s so that when we know someone in need, the organization will know that our parishioners donate items to them.

 

Baby Clothing (up to 18 mos.), Baby Items & Maternity Clothes

Please call the parish social ministry office, 703-978-4141,x18 to make arrangements for getting these donations to organizations that help women during pregnancy and in caring for their infants.

 

Children’s Clothing & Toys

Parishioner Janice Narel, 703-239-1846, is the contact person for donating clothing and toys for Fairfax County Foster Children.

Joseph's Coat Thrift Shop (will pick up large items)

(Gives items to clients of the Bethany House program for abused spouses and children or sells them and uses the proceeds to support Bethany House.)

Furniture & Household Goods

Parishioner Paula Pritchard, 703-250-5025, sometimes knows of low-income families in Burke who need items.

Diocesan Office of Migration & Refugee Services, 703-524-2154, accepts donations if they have storage space or know a family that needs them.

 

Computers

Burke Cares (703-250-5966) and FACETS 703-352-5090 sometimes need computers to give to low-income students in Burke and Fairfax to use for doing homework.

Vehicles

The Car Ministry, repairs vehicles if necessary and passes them on to low-income families. Call parishioner Bruce Neilson, 703-323-0457, or the Car Ministry, 703-237-8479. Catholic Charities, 703-841-2531, accepts cars that are in excellent condition for giving to people in need. Borromeo Housing, 703-313-0968, accepts cars, boats & RV’s. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), 703-779-7534, accepts cars.

Donations Hotline

The Volunteer Center of Fairfax, 703-246-3460 has a hotline where donors list computers, office and home furniture, appliances, and other large items. Nonprofit groups that need them call the donors. Donors need to store the items until they are contacted.
